Dazu Rock Carvings - Beishan

Beishan Rock Carvings were first created by Wei Junjing, prefect of Changzhou and military commander og Changzhou, Puzhou, Yuzhou and Hezhou,four districts in 892 A.D. of the late Tang Dynasty. Then the local gentry, ordinary people, monks and nuns followed his example. Until 1162 A.D. of the Southern Song Dynasty, the existing scale of Beishan Rock Carvings was formed and it centered around Fowan. In total, there are about 10,000 statues at site like Foeryan, Guanyinpo and Yingpanpo.
